Our Beginnings

Early in 1999 a small group of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ began meeting together with a burden to plant a new Bible-preaching Baptist Church in Durham Region. The population was growing at a phenomenal rate and Clarington has become one of the fastest expansion areas in all of Canada. After months of prayer and study of the Scriptures, this group was moved to invite Rev. Allen I. Crawford and his wife, Marion, to join the group in giving leadership to this thrilling project.

Because attention was focused on the area where Colonel Sam McLaughlin's forbears settled, the name Carriage Country Baptist Church was chosen and the work of federal incorporation was begun and accomplished.

Sunday Services began in the Tyrone Community Centre, north of Bowmanville, on April 16, 2000 with over 100 people in attendance. A search was started for a permanent location and a property fund was established to finance the find. Over the months, people have come to trust Christ as Saviour and confess Him as Lord in the waters of baptism. A wonderful spirit of love and caring pervades our fellowship as we seek to walk humbly with God and do His will according to His Word.
